Living Positive Victoria is a not for profit, community–based organisation representing all people living with HIV in Victoria since 1988 and is committed to the advancement of human rights and wellbeing of all people living with HIV. 

In response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the 1980s, Living Positive Victoria was created as a safe place to provide support and advocate those living with virus. The demand for services increased over the years and the organisation has now grown to a team of 16 individuals providing workshops, peer-support and activities that increase the mental, emotional, and social wellbeing of those living with, or affected by HIV. Living Positive Victoria also works closely in partnership with a range of HIV-sector and other organisations to deliver a comprehensive and coordinated response to the needs of PLHIV in Victoria, nationally and internationally.

Living Positive Victoria’s services reach a member base of more than 1,600 individuals, their partners and family members and their families across all races, ethnicities, genders, ages, and sexual identities. 

Thorne Harbour Health is one of Australia’s largest community-controlled health service providers for people living with HIV and the LGBTI community.

Established in 1983 following a public meeting to express government inaction of the HIV/AIDS epidemic (then referred to as Gay related Immune Deficiency), Thorne Harbour Health began as a genuinely community-driven and vocal organisation where most tasks were done by people volunteering their time.

Thorne Harbour Health works to protect and promote the health and human rights of people from LGBTI+ communities and all people living with HIV – by developing policy, influencing decision-makers, and forming strategic partnerships. Thorne Harbour Health primarily services Victoria and South Australia, but also leads national project.

Our structure and issues have changed over time, but our volunteers remain a most values resource in the delivery of our services. We remain committed to leading the fight against HIV and related social justice issues, so our history is a work in progress.

Burnet Institute is an Australian, unaligned, not-for-profit, independent organisation that links medical research with practical action to help solve devastating health problems. The organisation’s mission is to achieve better health for vulnerable communities in Australia and internationally by accelerating the translation of research, discovery and evidence into sustainable health solutions. 

The Burnet Institute is co-located with the Alfred Hospital and is the pre-eminent research organisation in Victoria working with communities affected by HIV. Burnet has a long track record of collaboration with community organisations like VAC and LPV in the development, evaluation and refinement of HIV prevention and care. 

Burnet brings together a highly diverse skill base, with more than 400 staff and students working across cutting-edge research and projects to address some of the most relevant global health issues. Harnessing our international and local field presence, our laboratories, and our mixed development and research cultures, drives a greater focus on the most relevant health issues, and achieves a greater impact as a result. 

Alfred Health is one of Australia’s leading healthcare services, caring for more than 700,000 locals who live in inner-southern Melbourne, and providing health services for Victorians experiencing the most acute and complex conditions through our 15 state-wide services. 

The Alfred’s three hospital campuses – The Alfred, Caulfield Hospital and Sandringham Hospital – as well as numerous community-based clinics, provide lifesaving treatments, specialist, and rehabilitation services for a wide range of people, from children to the elderly. 

The Alfred Hospital provides a state-wide HIV clinical service, including for marginalised individuals with HIV infection and those with complex care needs through the Victorian HIV Consultancy. Alfred Health also operates the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre and its dedicated HIV service (The Green Room), which opened in July 2020. 

Created following the merger of RSL Care and RDNS (Royal District Nursing Service) in 2015, Bolton Clarke is a leading Australian not-for-profit provider of aged care and senior living solutions with a core purpose of supporting and enabling health, wellbeing, independence, quality of life and choice for older people.

Bolton Clarke has a specialist HIV team that works closely with local providers and partners in Victoria to deliver a primary health care response supporting health and independence for people living with HIV.

Positive Women Victoria provides peer support, information and advocacy for women in Victoria living with HIV and believes women, femmes, cis women, and trans women have the right to achieve their goals and live vibrant and happy lives.

For over 30 years, Positive Women Victoria has responded to the changing needs of women living with HIV; recognising the impact gender has on the way women experience HIV and addressing the specific needs and emerging issues that affect women living with HIV in Victoria.
